I don’t know about you, but when I feel confident
WATCH OUT WORLD!!!
The thing about confidence though is that we have to learn how to stand in it. We need to be patient with ourselves and for progress to happen.
THIS IS HARD!
Which is why we need to talk about “Re-starting.” Many of my clients (and myself to be honest) will know what they want to do and start with a plan. Things go along great and then after a short period of time, they start to doubt where they are headed and if it is making a difference. For Instance: applying for new job and not hearing anything for a few weeks or using a new teaching strategy with your kids only to see slow progress. We think our plan or outcome is not what we should be doing. This is when confidence starts to wane and we change course. Been there—done that! Time to stop RE-STARTING and stay on the course. Trust me on this one because I have a lot of experience doing this.
So, how do you keep going when it feels like you are not making progress? Here’s how: 1. Re-visit your plan. How confident and sure of it were you and why? 2. Check out your plan with someone who has been in your place and has made progress. Make sure they are someone who will both tell you the truth and give you encouragement. You NEED both. 3. DON’T give up. You “knew” this was what you wanted, so see it through. Model for yourself the concept of resilience.
When you keep going and you get a clearer picture of what is going on, it only builds your confidence and propels you farther.
Do it! I am on your side.
